For conflict counselling and facilitation, the IICP is applying innovative, pro-active methods of conflict transformation, in addition to established methods such as conflict management, negotiation and mediation. The IICP focuses on dialogue projects in order to prepare conflict parties for negotiation, mediation and (re)conciliation.
In the context of dialogue projects, the IICP team takes up the role of facilitators with the objective of enabling a dialogue between the conflict parties, as well as of fostering dialogues within conflict parties by linking different levels of a society- that is between the top- middle- and grassroots levels.
The aims of a dialogue projects are:
- To facilitate respect, empathy and trust within and between conflict parties;
- To elaborate creative over-arching solutions and non-violent strategies;
- To disseminate and implement such proposals and strategies by encouraging local think-tanks and advocacy groups;
- To conduct "Train-the-Trainer" processes for conflict workers and mediators;
- To contribute to sustainable conflict transformation and democratic peacebuilding on the basis of intercultural learning processes.
Sometimes the IICP team or its external experts introduce solution-oriented perspectives themselves in order to overcome impasses and to enable creative processes. However, it is the conflict parties themselves who are regarded as the experts for their conflicts. The ownership remains with the conflict parties.
