Anita Bilek is the senior coordinator of IICP.

She is a teacher by education and works in an elementary school in Vienna . Her thesis was about political education as prevention for racism. While being a professional teacher she was upgraded in further trainings in "Global Education", "Political Education", "Peace Education" and "Peer-Mediation".

Ms. Bilek finished her education as a mediator in 2000. She learned at the largest Austrian School of Mediation "ARGE Bildungsmanagement" and by Prof. Johan Galtung.

Together with colleagues, she has developed a specific approach to conflict transformation, taking into account not only the behavioral, but also psychological, social and cultural dimensions of conflict transformation.

Since then she has won vast practical experiences in conflict resolution and mediation in the fields of intercultural mediation, political mediation and mediation with large groups. She is training pupils to Peer-Mediators and lectures at the "Pädagogisches Institut der Stadt Wien-PI" instructing teachers in conflict-transformation.

In 2001 she initiated as a pilot-project school-mediation in the 9th district of Vienna. Since, various other districts adopted the idea of professional mediators for conflicts in schools and is funded by the government of Vienna .

Based on this expertise Ms. Bilek was asked by the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture - bm:bwk to contribute to the working group on Peer-Mediation.

During the war on Kosovo she organized together with colleagues a lecture-series at the University of Vienna , concerning alternatives to the war on Kosovo. She has organized various conferences on Political Education and Peace Politic.

Ms. Bilek has published articles about the Transcend-Method and was Co-editor of books dealing with the war on Kosovo and 9/11.

She is a board member of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Frieden und Konfliktlösung - AFK", of "Transcend International" and founding and board member of Transcend Austria . Transcend Austria conducts training in the "Transcend Method of Conflict Transformation" in German and offers facilitation and mediation for intra-social conflicts.
