Dr. Wilfried Graf is the co-director of the IICP and is Senior Researcher at the IRKS - Institut für Rechts- und Kriminalsoziologie (Institute for Sociology of Law and Criminology). He is also a Research Fellow with the Centre for Peace Research and Peace Education at Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt.
Dr. Graf is a sociologist by education and wrote his dissertation on civilization theory and globalization. He studied at the University of Vienna, Austria. Between 1983 and 2005 he was a researcher at the ASPR - Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution.
His areas of research included Peace as a Project of Civilization, Paradigms of Conflict Transformation, Religion and Violence, Deep Dimensions of Nationalism and Fundamentalism and European Security and Peace.
As it was always important for him to combine research with practice, he also has vast practical experiences in conflict transformation. He is engaged as a conflict transformation consultant in various projects in Central Asia, South Caucasus, South East Europe, Sri Lanka and Southern Africa .
Based on this expertise Dr. Graf, together with colleagues, has developed a specific approach to conflict transformation, taking into account not only the behavioural, but also psychological, social and cultural dimensions of conflict transformation.
Dr. Graf imparts his experience by training and lecturing. He is trainer/lecturer in Conflict Transformation, Concepts of Peace-building, Democratization Processes, Federalism as a Peace Structure, Civilization Theories and Intercultural Communication within the ASPR training programs, such as the International Civilian Peace-keeping and Peace-building Training Program (IPT) and Mission Preparation Training Programme for the OSCE (MPT) and on a permanent basis at the:

•Université de Paris Sud, Faculté Jean Monnet, Paris
•Transcend Peace University, Cluj, Romania
He is founder and director of Transcend Austria , the national chapter of Transcend International, a network for peace and development, which was founded by Johan Galtung. Transcend Austria conducts training in the Transcend Method of Conflict Transformation in German and offers facilitation and mediation for intra-social conflicts.
